Yuri
Guberer
July 21, 1937 – July 14, 2025
Yuri Guberer, 87, of Monroe, New Jersey, passed away at home on July 14, 2025, just one week shy of his 88th birthday, with his beloved wife, Laura Guberer, by his side. Yuri was born and raised in Odessa, Ukraine, and was a Holocaust survivor. Yuri and Laura were married in Ukraine in 1966 and six years later immigrated to Israel and then to the United States - settling in Brooklyn, New York in 1974. Yuri and Laura raised their family in Brooklyn and later moved to Brookfield, Connecticut, where they continued to build a loving home for many years.
Upon arriving in the US, Yuri earned a Master of Engineering degree and later his MBA while working full time as a Mechanical Engineer at American Cyanamid Corporation. He was also involved in multiple entrepreneurial ventures throughout his career and found great fulfillment in retirement as a Physics professor at Middlesex Community College and as a court interpreter. A passionate bridge player, Yuri enjoyed both the intellectual challenge of the game and the camaraderie it brought him.
Yuri is survived by his devoted wife, Laura, of 60 years; his loving sons, Len and Steve Guberer; his cherished daughters-in-law, Cathy and Lauren; and his six adoring grandsons—Austin, Zachary, Sam, Jacob, Ben, and Levi—who brought him immense pride and joy.
Yuri will be remembered for his perseverance, resilience, strength, intelligence, and unwavering love for his family.
Funeral service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, July 16, at Flynn & Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, located at 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ. Burial immediately following at Beth Israel Cemetery, located at 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive in Woodbridge, NJ.
