Yara
Trokel
Sep 23, 1950 — Apr 11, 2017
Yara Trokel, of New York, NY, passed away at St. Luke's /Mt. Sinai Hospital on April 11, 2017. Born in Manhattan on September 23, 1950, Yara was a lifelong resident of Manhattan. Married first to Michael Trokel, and later to David Shapiro, the New York-based abstract artist, with whom she enjoyed thirty-three years of partnership, Yara will be remembered for her extraordinary joie de vivre, incredible magnetism, magnificent smile, and great faith in humanity. An astute and discerning fashionista long before the word became common parlance – Yara's own Style Masters International – captured European trending for US designers until twenty-first century global communication rendered the Atlantic Ocean essentially obsolete. Yara loved Paris, Peru, and the southern coast of France, and devotedly those of us fortunate enough to have spent time with her.
Yara is survived by her step daughter, Dana Trokel, her father, Stephen Millheiser, her brother, Stephen Millheiser and her sister, Selva Millheiser. A memorial service will be held on June 11 in New York City.
