William J. Mauro, 86, passed away surrounded by his family on June 9, 2017 at Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center.
He was born in Perth Amboy where he resided most of his life until moving to Woodbridge 17 years ago.
William was a Machine Operator for the "Schweitzer Division of Kimberly-Clark Corporation" in Spotswood for 43 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a communicant and an active member in the Holy Name Society and the Seniors of Good Shepherd Parish, Holy Rosary Church, Hopelawn. William was a volunteer fireman for 50 years with the Hopelawn Fire Department where he served two terms as Chief and then later became an exempt member, serving terms as President and Treasurer. He also served for a time as a responder with the Hopelawn First Aid. He was a veteran having served in the US Army from 1951-1959. William was a man loved by all who knew him. He never hesitated to volunteer his time or help anyone who needed him and he did so quietly, never seeking or expecting recognition for his selfless acts and hard work. He truly had a heart of Gold and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by 4 brothers. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Pauline
(Marchese), his daughter, Maria Marinelli and her husband Frank M., his grandson, Frank William, a sister, Antoinette Mauro-Mola, a brother, Nicholas Mauro, a godson, Nicholas M. Mauro Jr, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords. A Funeral Liturgy will be said at 10 AM at Good Shepherd Parish, Holy Rosary Church, Hopelawn. Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Mausoleum, Colonia. Viewing will be Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
