Obituary

William T. Harth, 99, formerly of Edison, died peacefully on Saturday, March 23 in Princeton, NJ.

He was the son of  Marguerite Mulligan and Thomas Hannigan Harth, born on September 14, 1924, on the banks of the Raritan River in Perth Amby, NJ, where he got his love of the shore and sea. He was the last remaining sibling of five children.

He attended St. Mary's Grammar School, where he served as an altar boy, and St. Mary's High School, graduating in 1940. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving in the Submarine Service as a Yeoman Second Class. While he was stationed on several vessels during the war, his most cherished service was on the US Charr, which deployed from Pearl Harbor on July 26, 1944 to the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1946.

Returning home, he was employed as a clerk at the Perth Amboy Dry Dock, where he would become its president. He continued his passion for sports in 1947 by joining the Perth Amboy YMCA volleyball team, the 1947 state champs, and the YMHA basketball team. At this time, he met the love of his life, Patricia E. Maher, who he married in 1950. He attended night school on the GI Bill at Rutgers University, graduating in 1956 with a BS in accounting. He was a member of the first night school graduating class of WWII Veterans, known has The Greatest Generation. He worked for John J. McMullen  Associates, a naval engineering company after it acquired the Perth Amboy Dry Dock and loved every day of his career until his retirement in 1995. Throughout his retirement, he continued his love of golf with his main golf buddy, son-in-law Patrick Logan.

He and Patricia settled in Edison, NJ and raised five children, where he coached little league baseball, was a member of the Woodbridge Knights of Columbus, and was an active communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church. He enjoyed college sports, especially the University of Notre Dame Men's Basketball team and the Boston College Women's Lacrosse team.

He was predeceased by his wife Patricia, and granddaughter, Allison E. Harth

He is survived his five children and their spouses: William Jr. (Luanne) Harth;  Kevin Harth (Sue) ; Ann (Patrick) Logan; Kathleen (James) Weeks and Patricia "Chickie" Harth. He also leaves his most cherished granddaughters, Kara A. Weeks;  Dr. Rachel Harth (Will) Donaway, and Kaitlyn J. Weeks, as well as several nieces and nephews.

William was a devout Catholic, a proud American, and a kind and humble soul who will be missed.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March27, 2024 8:30-10:00 am at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave, Fords, NJ. 08863. Services will begin on Wednesday at 10 am at the funeral home. A 10:30 am Funeral Liturgy will follow in Our Lady of Peace Church. Burial is private.
