Obituary

On Monday, February 6th, Mr. William J. "Buddy" Veit passed away at St. Joseph's Senior Home in Woodbridge.

Mr. Veit, who was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, moved to Fords with his family in 1961. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific theatre of Operations with the Marine Corps' famed 5th Division.

Mr. Veit was pre-deceased by his brother, Joseph; his sister, Martha; by his loving wife of 55 years, Mildred Flynn Veit in 1998; and by a great-grandson, James Patrick Koenke in 2003.

He is survived by his son, William J. Veit, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Fords; his daughter, Barbara A. Veit of Fords; his granddaughter, Allison M. Koenke and her husband Kenneth of Westfield; his grandson, William G. Veit and his fiancé Kristina Spirito of Metuchen; his niece, Deborah Hanns of Middletown; and by his three loving great-grandsons: Kieran, Sean, and Thomas Koenke.

Mr. Veit had worked in the Medical Products and Surgical Instrument industry for over 65 years. Starting in Shipping and Delivery, he advanced through Sales and Management positions and finally executive positions for several leading companies in the field. He was also the founder and CEO of the Bar-Will Corp., which manufactured and distributed surgical saws for the medical products industry.

Buddy had always been an avid sports fan and in spite of being raised in Brooklyn during the hay-day of the Brooklyn Dodgers, he was always a stead-fast, die hard NY Yankee fan! He also loved the NY Giants and the NY Knicks.

He was always a strong and vocal supporter of the athletic achievements of his two grandchildren and could always be heard in the gym or football stadium of Bishop Ahr H.S. loudly encouraging them and their teammates.

He will be sadly missed by family and friends and especially by his three great-grandsons who were the light of his life these past years.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, from 7:00-9:00 pm and Thursday, February 9, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral services will begin Friday, February 10, at 10:00 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863 followed by a 10:30 Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church, Fords. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery.
