Willard A. Mayer Sr., 94, of Bernardsville died Thursday, September 23, 2010, at JFK
Medical Center in Edison.
Willard was born in Newark and moved to Bernardsville 12 years ago. Prior to his move, he resided in Edison.
Willard was the Director of Finance for 35 years, at the Northeast sectional branch of the
U.S. Postal Service in Newark, for before retiring in 1982. He received his Bachelors
and Masters degrees from Seton Hall University. He was an army veteran of WW II, and
was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1711, the American Legion, and a
former communicant of St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen.
Willard was predeceased by his wife Gertrude E. Mayer in 2007. He is survived by his
children: Willard A. "Tim" Jr. of Tewksbury; Jon Henri of Denville and his fiancee Tess
Paris; Kenneth A. and his wife Shikha L. of Bernardsville; Leah Paras and her husband
Nicholas of Ft. Lauderdale; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers: Joseph of St. Petersburg FL; Dr. Edward of Mountainside; Andrew of Totowa; and Dr. Raymond of Convent Station.
A funeral Liturgy will be offered at 11 am Monday, September 27, 2010, at St. James R.C. Church, S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, followed by entombment in Holy Cross Mausoleum in Basking Ridge. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-6 pm at the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen. (732-548-2134)
