Walter T. Shymon, 88, of Edison passed away on Monday, April 23, at home. He was born in Jersey City, NJ, and resided in Edison for most of his life before moving to Toms River in 1979.
He was a graduate of Dickinson High School in Jersey City, and received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ. He received a MS in Electrical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering.
Walter served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and remained in the Army Reserve Signal Corps, retiring at the rank of Colonel. For forty years he was employed as an electrical engineer in Fort Monmouth, where he worked NATO and SHAFE on several international projects. Walter was a life member of the Reserve Officers Association.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Ozut Shymon, in 1996 to whom he was married for 48 years.
Walter is survived by his daughters, Deborah Ransom and husband Ronald of Edison and Darlene Massaro and husband Steve of Missouri.
Walter was the grandfather of Major Ryan Ransom and spouse Margaret of Arizona and Dr. Randy Ransom and spouse Dr. Jessica Moses of Georgia. Surviving granddaughters are Holly Charles and spouse Scott of Colorado and Polly Massaro of Colorado. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Delaney, Colin, Cassidy, Addison and Logan Ransom, also survived by his brother Stephen J. Shymon of Metuchen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28 at 9:30 am at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, followed by a 10 am Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, Fords. Visitation will be Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
