Walter Galvin, 88 of Columbus, NJ passed peacefully on Saturday, March 25, 2023 surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren at the Center For Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ.
Born on January 25, 1935 in Jersey City, Mr Galvin had resided in Edison for 15 years before moving to Columbus, NJ 21 years ago.
He was a graduate of Saint Aloysius High School in Jersey City, with the class of 1952. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree from Rutgers University in Newark, NJ
He proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a past president of Lincoln Park Little League, past president of St Aloysius Holy Name Society, past president of Hudson Catholic Men's Club and Honorary member of Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Peace Fords Council 09199.
He retired in 1997 after working for 42 years as Vice President of Data Processing at Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in NYC.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Eleanor Galvin, his first wife, Florence Galvin who died in 1998, and his brother William Galvin who died in 2012.
He leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Nancy Galvin, his beloved daughter, Debra Dempsey and her husband James of Edison, and his two beloved sons, James M Galvin of Somerville,and Kevin M Galvin and his wife Paula of Safety Harbor FL,,
his 5 cherished grandchildren, Brendan, Kaitlyn, Connor, Brett, and Emily, and his dear brother, James Galvin of Columbus.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave. Fords NJ 08863.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10 am from the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords.
Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
