Virginia R. Gustavsen, 95, of Farmingdale, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She was born in Perth Amboy, where she had resided for 44 years before moving to Morganville, and eventually settling in Farmingdale 33 years ago.
Virginia was employed as a Bookkeeper for most of her adult life, having worked for numerous employers including the NJ State Unemployment Office in Red Bank, from which she retired in 1981. She continued to work both full-time and part-time until she was 85 years old. She was a charter member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Aberdeen and was also a member of the Sons of Norway, and a dedicated member of the Violet Rebekah Lodge of Perth Amboy, where she held numerous positions of leadership, including President and Secretary.
She is predeceased by her husband, John A. Gustavsen; her daughter, Elaine Cabral; and her son, Louis. She is survived by her three sons: John Gustavsen and his wife, Dianne, of Freehold, Eric and his wife, Simone, of Lanoka Harbor, and Wayne and his wife, Jeanette, of Florida. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren, and one great- great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2012, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords. Interment will follow in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge.
In lieu of flowers, because of Virginia's life-long love of animals, especially cats, contributions may be made in her memory to the ASPCA.
