Viola Victoria De Peyster of Perth Amboy died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Born in Perth Amboy, she attended local schools. She graduated Rutgers University and Kean College with a Master of Education Degree and a Master's Degree in Psychology. She was listed in several editions of "Who's Who in American Educators". Prior to her retirement, she taught at Edward J. Patten School, Perth Amboy. She also served as Director of Middlesex County Head Start Program and privately tutored.
Mrs. De Peyster was predeceased by her parents, Clairmont and Esther Hazell, a daughter, Wanda Wactor, two brothers, Newton and Ernest Hazell, and a sister, Hortense Johnson. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Wilfred S. De Peyster, 3 daughters, Rhonda De Peyster of Perth Amboy, Renee and her husband Harry of Linden, Camille Arvelo and her husband John of Island Heights, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, one brother, Carlton Hazell and his wife Gwendolyn of Silver Spring, MD, and one sister, Esther Peak of Perth Amboy; also, many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Cremation services were privately held. A memorial visitation will be 10-12 PM Saturday at the funeral home in Perth Amboy. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 26th at 1:00 PM at The 3 Brothers Restaurant, 555 Penn St., Perth Amboy.
