Victor M. Contala passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at his home in Port Reading. He was 68 years old.

Born in Perth Amboy, he was a resident of Port Reading for 31 years. He was a truck driver for American Cyanmad/Cytec in Linden for 38 years before retiring in 1997. Victor was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Cartaret. Rated as one of Top Pigeon Flyers in the United States, he was a member of the Greater Elizabeth Pigeon Flyers Club, the Perth Amboy Pigeon Flyers Club and the Linden Pigeon Club.

He is predeceased by his late parents, Bernard and Mary. Victor is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maryann Makuch Contala; a daughter Laurie Bertsch and son-in-law Christopher of Colonia; three grandchildren: Shannon, Ashley, and Victoria; a sister, Maryann Manhert of Piscataway; two brothers: Andrew and Bernard of Avenel; and many nieces, nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 9:30 AM from Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM. Entombment will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery Mausoleum, Colonia.
