Obituary

Vicki Lynn Abella (nee Waldron), 77, passed away on January 1, 2025, surrounded by family at St Peter's Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, after valiantly fighting lung cancer.

Vicki's life was built on unwavering love and devotion to her husband, Frank Abella, and his children, Frank J Abella III; Gregg Thomas Abella and wife Erika; Sharon Marie Abella; and their children, Maryann Olszewska and husband Bartosz Olszewski, Renata Michelle Abella, Bracton Dean Abella and Banks Bower Abella.

Vicki was predeceased by her parents, Jean and William Waldron.

As a young girl, Vicki attended schools in 21 cities in Texas and Louisiana, while her father enjoyed a career as a bridge construction engineer.  She attended Louisiana State University and, while there, developed a passion for football and golf.

Because she always loved to travel, after college she became a flight attendant for United Airlines, where she enjoyed a remarkable 36-year career until her retirement in 2003. For 17 of those years, she was the senior flight attendant for all the away games of the NY Giants football team. For the last two years of her career, she was selected to fly with the Press Corp, which accompanied the Presidential Air Force One on trips outside the United States.

Vicki's winning qualities were her outgoing personality and a genuine liking of people. She was selfless, energetic, and cheerful, a great storyteller, and an even better writer.

Among her greatest joys were the cherished friendships with United's flight attendants and members of the Metuchen Golf and Country Club, where she was a member for over 40 years.
