Velodie (Hodge) Lake, 86, of Perth Amboy, passed away on December 18, 2012 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Velodie was a life-long resident of Perth Amboy.
Born on October 31, 1926, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, she was the daughter of William and Harriet (Woods) Hodge. She was a devoted member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and was a former member of the Church Choir.
She is predeceased by her parents, William and Harriet (Woods) Hodge; two brothers, Cedric and Joseph Hodge; two sisters, Ellen Miles and Millicent Hodge; and two nieces, Valerie and Cheryl Ann Hodge.
She is survived by her son Brett Lake of Cherry Hill, NJ; nieces, Dr. Donna Hodge of East Stroudsburg, PA and Linda Hodge of West Lake Village, CA; cousins: Elnando "Butch" Bryson of Piscataway and Dennis Bryson of Somerset; great-nephew, William Chase Hodge-Brokeburr; cousins: Narcissus Moses and Rose Powell; brother-in-law, Fred Miles; best friend and sister of heart, Marie Foster; as well as friends Abbott Richardson, Austin Gumbs, Hubert Carty, and a host of other relatives and special friends whose devotion was continuous until her death.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 183 Rector St., Perth Amboy. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM at the church. Interment will be in St. Peter's Episcopal Church Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 424 East Ave., Perth Amboy. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: St. Peter's Living Memorial Foundation.
Not by chance, but by appointment, she answered the call December 18, 2012 – for quietly she lived and quietly she slipped away.
