Valmore Paul Boily passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 1, 2019. He was 87 years old. He was married to his "sweetheart," the late Mary O'Donnell Boily, for 59 years. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he moved to Staten Island in 1977 and to New Jersey in 2002. Paul graduated from Manual Training High School, Brooklyn, NY, and received his Associate's Degree Electrical Engineering from NYU. He served in the Third Armored Division of U.S. Army stateside during the Korean conflict. He had a career as a computer engineer at Data Products and later at Univac. Later in life he went on to a second career as a motion picture projectionist.
Paul was a man of many talents and hobbies. An accomplished musician, he was a professional trumpet player in jazz bands during his youth and also played piano, guitar and drums. He was a gifted oil painter and an avid book and movie collector. He enjoyed watching silent films and listening to Fats Waller.
Paul is survived by his daughters: Patricia Cats, Anne Dunphy and her husband, Robert, and Mary Alice McNee and her husband, Matthew; and his loving daughter-in-law, Beth Boily. He was grandfather (aka "pop pop") to Alexander and Jessica Cats; Kaitlyn, Robert and Emily Dunphy; Marisa Boily; and Matthew and Margaret McNee. He was a great-grandfather to Oscar Alexander Shinsky.
Paul was predeceased by his wife, Mary Boily; son, Paul Boily; granddaughter, Kathleen Dunphy; his parents, Alice Denault and Joseph Valmore Boily; and his brothers, Robert Boily and Philip Boily.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ. A private cremation will follow.
