Thomas J. Lyons, 79, of Edison, died on Monday, May 3, 2010 at home surrounded by those who loved him. He was born on February 16, 1931 in Perth Amboy and resided in Edison for 40 years. He was a Supply Officer, U.S. Army Communications, and Electronics Material Readiness Command at Ft. Monmouth, 30 years, retiring in 1980. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church. He was a member of HUBS, Inc., Perth Amboy. He enjoyed fishing on the "Tea Party" with his brothers and nephew, Chris. He also enjoyed making bird houses and loved all of his pets.
He was predeceased by his parents, George "Lefty" Lyons in 1963 and Helen E. Kane Lyons in 1997; brothers, James, Coleman, Francis, and John; sisters, Kathleen Mastrapoli, Rosemarie Lyons and Patricia Hudak. He is survived by his wife, Marie Hampton Lyons, with whom he was married 31 years; son, Martin R. of Seattle, WA; brothers, George and Gary of Fords; sisters, Margaret Fata of Edison, Helen Ensel of South Plainfield, Barbara Payer of Fords; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral Service on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords followed by a 10:30AM Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, Fords. Burial at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation on Thursday, May 6, 2010, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.
