Obituary

Thomas Michael Keating, 78, of Monroe Township, passed away at home peacefully, surrounded by those who loved him, on May 10, 2018. He was born in Perth Amboy on April 5, 1940. Tom retired after 31 years as a Teacher & BSI Resource Teacher/Coordinator for the Perth Amboy Board of Education. He was PAFT Executive Treasurer.  He had a successful second career as an administrator at the Middlesex County Mental Health Center focused on payroll and grants until retirement.  He was an inspirational teacher and a man of integrity. He proudly attended Catholic school his whole life, graduating St. Mary's High School, Class of 1958; St Peter's University, Class of 1962 and received his MBA in Education Administration from Seton Hall University. Tom was a communicant of St. James Church, Jamesburg and a former communicant of St. James Church, Woodbridge. He was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was a local Woodbridge Township Democratic Committeeman. Tom was a dedicated Red Sox fan, making many trips to Fenway Park.  He traveled extensively in retirement with Susan, to Europe, particularly Ireland and Italy. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was dedicated to faith, family and Fenway. As his late brother-in-law- Jack Cerulo always said, "EVERYONE loves Tom!"

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, James and Margaret Keating, and a brother, James Keating and his father-in-law John F. Cerulo and brothers-in-law, Rev. Father Thomas Cerulo, O.S.S.T. and Jack Cerulo.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Susan (nee. Cerulo) Keating, of Monroe Twp.; two daughters, Kathleen M. Baio, and her husband, James, of Monroe; Karen M. Wilhelm, and her husband, Josh, of North Brunswick; 5 grandchildren: Sara, Jessica, Everett, Aaron, and Kaitlyn; sister, Mary Lou McGrath, and her husband, Deacon James McGrath, of Toms River; and sister–in-law, Carolyn Keating, of Rockledge, FL. Tom has many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews from the Keating, Cerulo, McGrath sides of the family.

Visitation will be at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863, Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 3-7 pm. Funeral services will begin Wednesday 10 am at the funeral home followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Liturgy at St. James Church in Woodbridge. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery.
