Thomas J. Harkins, 70 died April 15, 2020 from complications from a fall. He was born July 10, 1949 in Staten Island, New York, the son of John and Louise Harkins. He was a graduate of Tottenville High School.

Tom served with the United States Marine Corps 1st Marine Division, 1st Recon Battalion during the Vietnam War (1969-1971) where he was a decorated veteran receiving 2 Purple Hearts and many other medals and awards.

After his military service he returned to his job at Nassau Smelting and Refining.

Tom was passionate about his work for the VFW where he held many offices over the years. Including Post Commander for VFW Post 6511, Richmond County Commander, and District #2 New York Commander.

Surviving are his wife Jeanie, his son Thomas Jr., daughters Lisa, Michele King and her husband Joseph. Four grandchildren Francis, Christopher, Samantha and Norah. His brother James and his wife Karen and several nieces and nephews.
