Theresa "Eileen" Wans, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in Edison, NJ.
Born on April 12, 1931 to the late Peter and Mary Graham, Eileen grew up in Linden but moved to Edison in 1954, where she had been a resident ever since. She was a graduate of St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth, NJ. After her marriage she dedicated her life to family and friends. When the time came to return to the work force, Eileen held numerous positions including becoming a proud member of Teamsters Local 560 at Allied Chemical. Eileen enjoyed volunteering as a water aerobics instructor for almost 20 years at the Metuchen YMCA where she cherished many life-long friendships. Her passion for music was a gift to all who stood around her piano for sing-a-longs. Eileen also used her talent as a pianist for Mrs. Duffy's Dance Studio formally of Metuchen.
Eileen is predeceased by her beloved husband, Chester S. Wans Sr.; and her siblings, Peter Graham, Edward Graham, Joseph Graham, Thomas Graham, Louise Estok, and Marie Mohwinkle.
Surviving Eileen are her 3 children, Eileen Matarazzo (William), Charlene Applegate (James), and Chester S. Wans Jr.; her grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer), Amy (Naomi) and Michael (Lisa); her great grandchildren, Cassandra, Victoria, and Lua; and her brother Samuel Graham (Betty Jane).
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 between the hours of 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM at the Flynn and Son / Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen, NJ 08840. Funeral services will begin the next morning at the funeral home at 9:30 AM. A procession will then follow to St Helena's RC Church, Edison, NJ for a 10:00 AM Funeral Liturgy. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
