Theodore John
Kiyak
November 14, 1935 – April 16, 2023
Theodore John Kiyak, 87, of Parlin, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
Theodore was born and raised in Perth Amboy to the late Michael and Elizabeth Kiyak. He earned his high school diploma from Middlesex Vo-Tech. He began his love for carpentry while working in a cabinet shop during his teenage years. Theodore served his country by joining the United States Army and received his honorable discharge after his years of service. Once Theodore returned home, he married the love of his life, Dorothy. Theodore worked many years with the Local #65 Carpenters Union, and went on to further his education by attending night school at Rutgers. He later became a teacher with the Piscataway Board of Education teaching woodshop and Building Trades for many years before his retirement. He was also the Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Piscataway High School during their 1985 Championship Season. He was a member of the Sayreville Emergency Squad for many years, and served as Captain in 1985-1986.
Theodore was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and enjoying spending time with his family. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking at home, gardening, and going fishing. He also enjoyed going on beautiful cruises with his beloved wife. Theodore was a member of the American Legion Post #211. He was also an avid Mets and Jets fan.
Theodore is predeceased by his wife of over 57 years, Dorothy (Yunker); his brothers Emil Kiyak, Michael Kiyak, and Albert Kiyak; and his sister, Martha Vanco. He is survived by his daughters Cynthia Magyarits, Michele Muroski and her husband, Ed, four granddaughters, Nicole and Amber Muroski, Elizabeth and Emily Magyarits, and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, dear friends and neighbors. Theodore also leaves behind his beloved fur baby Buddy, who was his faithful companion throughout his illness.
A visitation will be held on Thursday April 20, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue Fords, NJ 08863, with a time of sharing to begin at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at the Most Holy Name of Jesus Holy Trinity Church, 315 Lawrie St, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861, Burial to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Hopelawn.
Family and friends are also welcome to gather in the funeral home prior to mass starting at 10 a.m. with a final viewing at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time
