Obituary

Steven J. Deak, 87, of Fresno, CA, passed away on December 28, 2023, at California Armenian Home, Fresno.  Steven was born in Perth Amboy, NJ, resided in Fords and was educated in the Woodbridge Township School System graduating with the Class of 1954.  He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, New Brunswick Local 1006.  He was a communicant member of the Hungarian Reformed Church, Perth Amboy and was an elder of the Church Council and a member of it's Men's Club.  He served as Cubmaster for Clara Barton Cub Pack 25 in Edison, NJ, and Roundtable Commissioner and Trainer for the Edison Council Boy Scouts of America.  He also served in the US Army, Corps of Engineers, and the Army Reserves. Mr. Deak was a member of the Lafayette (Americus) Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons and held a 32nd degree with the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Chapter of Central Jersey.

Relocating to Fresno, California in 1976 with his family, he was employed by the Fresno Unified School District, Building Trades Unit, for 20 years before his retirement.  He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder and Deacon.  He was also a Roundtable Commissioner with the Sequoia Council, Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife, Florence, of 64 years and two children, Michael (Lindsay) and Patricia; his sister, Elizabeth Deak of Fords; his sister-in-law, Lillian Banyacski; nieces Cindy Torok and husband, Reverand Stefan Torok; Joyce Colgan; a nephew, Mark Banyacski; great nieces: Melissa, Gabriella, Laura and Kelly Colgan; and great nephew, Christopher Banyacski; and several cousins in New Jersey and Texas.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 3 PM to 5 PM at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ.  Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday January 12, 2024, at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ.  Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Hopelawn, NJ.

Memorial donations will gratefully be accepted by the Hungarian Reformed Church, 331 Kirland Place, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861 or Westminster Presbyterian Church, 50 East Santa Ana Avenue, Fresno, CA 93704.
