Stephen Joseph Gajewski, 91, passed away November 9 in Huntersville, North Carolina. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and resided in Perth Amboy and Barnegat, New Jersey.
He is preceded in death by his wife Catherine (Beck) Gajewski, his parents Stephen and Ida Gajewski, his sisters Gertrude Bonalski and Helen Peruca. He is survived by his life partner Marian Andersen, sister Joan (Lou) Allen, children Gary (Nancy) Gage, Theresa (Robin) Profenius, and Brian Gajewski, grandchildren Stephen (Sam) Gage, Raymond (Meghan) Gage, Allison (Peter)Karch, Meggie (Marcos) Frangioni, Benjamin Profenius and Austin Profenius, and six great grandchildren.
Stephen proudly served on the USS Pritchett during the Korean War. He had a long career in the bread industry and was also an accomplished musician, performing with Carmen and the Skylarks for twenty five years. He rose to the level of Exalted Ruler of the Perth Amboy Elks Lodge and represented the lodge at the national convention. After Stephen retired to Barnegat, NJ he took great pleasure visiting the boardwalk at Seaside Heights and the Barnegat Light House (Old Barney). A life long New York Yankees fan, he looked forward to his annual trip with Marian for spring training in Florida.
Friends may call on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 10:00am - 11:30am at the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords where funeral services will begin at 11:30am followed by a Funeral Liturgy in Most Holy Rosary/Good Shepherd Parish in Hopelawn. He will be laid to rest with his late wife Catherine in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge . In lieu of flowers please donate to Parkinson's Foundation in memory of Stephen and Catherine Gajewski.
