Obituary

Stephen F. Edwards, 75 years of age, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.

Steve was born on June 30, 1945 in the Bronx, New York to the late Joseph and Ursula Edwards. He was the youngest of five children, two of whom (brother Joseph Edwards and sister Jean Turro) preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and Fordham University. He spent the last 50 years of his life living in the Fords section of Woodbridge.

Steve served two tours of duty in the United States Army from 1967 – 1969 before being honorably discharged and joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He had a long career of distinguished service as a Supervisory Special Agent in the New York City, NY and Newark, NJ bureau offices until his retirement in 2001.

While Steve had a distinguished resume, it was his character, sense of humor and who he was as a husband, father and grandpa that will be missed most by all that knew him.  Steve loved the New York Yankees, reading about U.S. history, and reading the comics in the newspaper each morning. He was famous within the household for his pancake breakfasts each Saturday morning. He loved his time with his family at the beach in Wildwood, NJ where he was an expert at body surfing waves all the way to the shoreline! Steve's family, who he loved dearly, was always the most important thing in his life.

Steve leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Rosemary Belasco Edwards, his two children Stephen J. Edwards and Laura Field, son-in-law Tim Field,  grandchildren Melanie Edwards, August Starshine, and Madison Field, brother Brian Edwards and sister Andrea Gillooly.

Arrangements entrusted to Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ.

Services will be held on Tuesday, December 29 th , at Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords and he will be buried at All Saints Cemetery in Newtown, Pennsylvania. Due to covid restrictions, the service is limited to immediate family.
