Obituary

Sidney Tessler, 92, of Fords section of Woodbridge, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on September 27, 2013. He was born on October 27, 1920 on the lower East Side of Manhattan, where he resided until he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps after the start of World War II. Sid was a Staff Sergeant stationed with the 23rd Air Service Group with the 11th Air Force on the island of Adak in the Aleutian Islands.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Sid married his beloved Esther Dershowitz of Jersey City. Sid had successful careers in insurance, real estate and finance. He was a former member of the Knights of Pythias Liberty Lodge in Jersey City and Past Commander of the Jewish War Veterans Post in Jersey City. Sid was also a Vice President of B'nai Brith Menorah Lodge in Woodbridge, a member of the Woodbridge Senior Billiard Club, the 55 Plus Club and Congregation Neve Shalom in Metuchen.

After a wonderful 56 years of marriage, Sid's beloved wife Esther passed away on December 19, 2003. He was also predeceased by his two sisters Anna Tessler and Martha Goord, three brothers Joseph, Sol, and Irving Tessler, his parents Harry and Ida Tessler and grandson Gregory Scott Hanas (March 17, 1987).

Sid was the Patriarch of the Tessler Family and is survived by his two sons Mark (Marilyn) Tessler of Fair Lawn, and Wayne (Kathleen) Tessler of Wall, three daughters Debra (Warren) Zulin of Parlin, Ilene ( Gary) Hanas of Edison, Lori ( Thomas) McCabe, of New Egypt, eleven grandchildren Colleen Tessler of Honolulu, HI, Steven ( Shoshana) Tessler of Hawthorne, Brian ( Gina) Tessler of Boston, MA, David (Rivka) Tessler of Baltimore, MD, Lauren Tessler of Fairlawn, Shana Zulin of Parlin, Amanda and Stacy Hanas of Edison, and Erica, Ryan and Kevin McCabe of New Egypt. Also surviving are three great grandsons Jonah Ethan Tessler, Baruch Naftali Tessler, Bryce Warren Charles and two great granddaughters Nava Celeste Tessler and Temima Esther Tessler, and brother-in-law Sonny (Diane) Dershowitz, sister-in-law Gertrude Mandel and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday September 30, 2013 at 11:30 am at Temple Neve Shalom, 250 Grove Avenue, Metuchen, N.J. Interment will follow in Beth Israel Memorial Park in Woodbridge. Arrangements are under the direction of the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords (732 826-0358). Shiva will be observed at the family residence Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (September 30, 2013 thru October 2, 2013). Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assn., the American Cancer Society or the charity of ones choice.
