Sharon Stephens, age 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.
She was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 16, 1945. Sharon has been a resident of Metuchen, for the last year, but previously lived in Branchburg and prior to that Westmont in Southern New Jersey. Sharon proudly served her country by joining the Women’s Army Corps during the Vietnam era, serving from April 1964 to December 1965. After her service, Sharon obtained her bachelor’s degree from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. She continued her career, working as a medical technologist, later in pharmaceutical sales, and finally as a social worker for over 25 years in the offices of the County of Camden, New Jersey. She was an active member of St. Matthias Catholic Church in Somerset, NJ. She was a container gardener and a birder with a love for Cape May. She enjoyed bingo and playing cards, especially rummy.
Sharon is survived by her two children, her daughter Alisa Schleif along with her husband Jonathan and her son Edward Stephens; and her five grandchildren, Daniel, Caroline, Eric, Benjamin, and Joshua, as well as her companion Richard.
Cremation will be private. Memorial visitation will take place on Monday, July 27, 2026 between 9:00AM to 10:00 AM at the Flynn and Son / Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840. A procession will then follow to St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen, for a 10:30 memorial mass. Sharon will be entombed in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, near Wrightstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
