Sharon Bolger, 65, of Metuchen, passed peacefully at her home on Monday, June 19, 2017, with the love of her family at her side. She was born and raised in North Plainfield and was formerly of Belle Meade. Sharon was the daughter of Herman and Elizabeth Van de Vaarst, and grew up in North Plainfield, NJ. In her early 20's, she began her nursing career at Muhlenburg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ. In 1975, she married her high school sweetheart, David Bolger. They had two children, Carrie (36 yrs old) and Sarah (34 yrs old). Sharon went on to be one of the most successful nurses in NJ. She was director of nursing for Foothill Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing facility in Hillsborough, NJ, for 12 years before being prematurely forced into retirement due to her battle with Colon Cancer. Prior to her illness, if there was ever someone sick or in need, she would drop everything to help. Beyond nursing, Sharon loved fishing, traveling, music, cooking, shopping at Kohls, playing with her grandkids and spending time with family.
Sharon is survived by her sisters, Betty, Anne, Carol, and Martha; her brothers, Skip, Bud, and Tom; her dear friend and former husband, David; her daughters, Carrie and Sarah; sons-in-law, Ajit and Stephen; and her beautiful grandchildren, Jack and Juju. Sharon has asked to be layed to rest off of the Pillar Point Cliff over the Mavericks in Half Moon Bay, CA.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Flynn and Son /Koyen Funeral Home 319 Amboy Ave Metuchen , NJ 08840 with a 7:30 pm prayer service with Pastor Linda Owens officiating. A memorial church Service will follow on Friday at a time to be announced, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 535 Broadway, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
