Ruth F. Epstein, 93, of Madison, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2017, at her spiritual son and daughter's home, in Edison. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Ruth had been a resident of Madison for 53 years. She was an Elementary School Teacher receiving her MA from Bank Street College, then later receiving her MSW from Rutgers University and working as a self-employed Therapist. Ruth worked hard her entire life as a political and social activist, against any injustice, bigotry and hatred.
She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Lynn Fong and son-in-law Ivon of British Columbia, Canada and Carla Naomi Epstein-Teliha and her husband John of Highland Park; her spiritual son and daughter, Flavio and Jenny Chavez of Edison; two grandchildren, Christopher and Sojourner Elise Hardy; great-granddaughter Taylahn Elise Calley; two Nephews, Eric and Stephen Slade.
Visitation will be held at Flynn and Son / Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen, on November 20, 2017 from 7-9 PM. Cremation will be private. Shiva will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the home of Carla Naomi Epstein-Teliha's, Highland Park.
