Rosemary "Rose" Salerno passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at JFK/Hackensack Meridian Health Medical Center in Edison, with her family at her side, she was 84 years old.
Born on June 9, 1940, in Queens, New York to Biagio and Angela, she resided in Edison for the past 45 years. Rose attended St. Clements Academy Grammar School in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Santa Monica Ca. and St. Monica's Roman Catholic H.S., also in Santa Monica.
A member of the Retail Clerks International Association, Rose began her career in the security industry at Two Guys, where, her keen eye and attention to detail resulted in a reduction of overall theft in areas such as fraud, shoplifting and price fixing. Continuing in that venue, she went on to work for Supermarkets General (Pathmark) as an Asset Protection Specialist/Investigator.
Utilizing the technology available to her combined with her acquired skillset, Rose was directly and indirectly involved with countless numbers of apprehensions, group identification which targeted such establishments, surveillance and prosecution which resulted in saving the company an untold sum of money. Rose amended and enhanced internal auditing procedures as well as ensured employee protocols and practices were being adhered to. Though small in stature, you'd never know it, she didn't back down to anyone.
Rosemary attended the New York State College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, Cornell University, Food Store Loss Prevention Management Training and the Supermarkets General Investigators Sensitivity Training Program. The recipient of numerous awards such as the Southern Division Gold Badge Award for outstanding apprehension and arrest; Supermarkets General corporate acknowledgement as a result of internal auditing, associate of the month and recognition in the Quarter Century Club "Service Award" for over 25 years of dedicated service. Rose loved her job, was extremely fond of her coworkers and enjoyed any opportunity when she could train or mentor new team members.
Rose had a generous spirit and supported several charitable causes, such as the Paralyzed Veterans of America, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Tunnel-2-Towers. When she wasn't soaking up the rays enjoying a glass of iced tea, you could find her enjoying her other favorite past times, either reading a good horror book with a cup of hot tea or dabbling around in the kitchen. Travel with loved ones was one of her greatest joys.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her brothers, Michael and John. She leaves behind her cherished nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863. A procession will follow over to Most Holy Rosary Church, Good Shepherd Parish, 625 Florida Grove Road, Hopelawn, NJ for an 11:30AM Funeral Liturgy. Cremation will follow privately.
