Rosalie "Rose"
Doherty
January 31, 1945 – December 19, 2022
Rosalie "Rose" Doherty (Mylett) passed away at home on December 19, 2022. She was 77 years old.
Rose was born on January 31, 1945, and raised in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn, NY. She was fiercely proud of her Brooklyn roots for her entire life.
After graduating from St. Catherin McAuley High School in 1963, she began working at Moore-McCormack Lines in lower Manhattan where she met her future husband Thomas P. Doherty.
Thomas and Rose married in 1966 and they settled in the Clara Barton section of Edison, NJ where she lived for the next 56 years. During that time she raised four children: Thomas, John, Maureen and Matthew; and loved nine grandchildren: Liam, Aidan, Heather, Lauren, Hannah, Brian, Claire, Jacqueline, and Seamus. She was also adored by her daughters-in-law Corrin, Courtney and Maggie, along her son-in-law Brian. In addition, all of her children's friends from grammar school, high-school, college, and beyond, always enjoyed the opportunity to be around her.
While her formal education did not extend beyond high-school, she shepherded all of her children through Bachelor Degrees, Masters Degrees, and one Law Degree.
Her extended family of nephews and nieces extended around the country as her Mylett family of Thomas, John, James, Christopher, Stephen, David, and Daniel, settled with their families in states from Washington to Florida, and Texas to New York. Meanwhile her nieces Caitlin Doherty and Megan Doherty settled in New Jersey and North Carolina.
Rose's brothers-in-law John and Jimmy, along with her sisters-in-law Margaret, Patricia, and Nancy always provided her with support since the day she married Thomas. Jimmy in particular was gracious with his time the last few years taking her to various doctors for a variety of treatments.
While she did not travel all that much, her love of novels, particularly murder mysteries, took her around the world several times and back in time centuries.
She dedicated her life to raising her children, but once they were out of the house she enjoyed working at various kiosks at the Menlo Park Mall and of course lunch when she could at the Menlo Park Diner. She also held the elected position of Democratic Committee Woman for the Clara Barton Section of Edison for several years, where she helped select leaders for her town, county, state, and nation.
Rose leaves behind an imprint far in excess of herself and exits this world having lived a full life that focused on others. A very simple example that is not always easy to follow, but certainly worth following. Well done Rose, thank you.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 23, 2022, from 11:00 AM to Noon at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863 with a prayer service at 12:00 Noon officiated by Fr. Doherty. Cremation will be private.
