Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce that Ronald C. Epstein passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, at precisely the closing bell of the NY Stock Exchange.  His wit, charm and humor will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Ron was born on May 5th, 1931 in Perth Amboy, NJ.  He was a proud graduate of Rider University, Class of 1953.  In 1955 Ron married his beloved wife, Dorothy (Amar) who was the light of his life for the next 70 years.  They were inseparable and during their long and happy marriage, they spent only 3 nights apart.

Ron grew up in the family business, Raritan Oil Co, and rose to the position of President in 1987 before retiring in 1997.  The company was started by Ron's father Solomon in the 1930's as a diesel fuel dealer in Edison, NJ serving the rapidly growing trucking industry on the Rt 1 corridor.  Ron was an active member of the Fuel Merchants Association of NJ for many years.

Multiple interest and hobbies occupied Ron's free time.  Fishing trips to the Hudson canyon on board the Vivian C yielded him many big catches but none bigger than the 250 pound tuna he landed after a 2 hour fight.  He was an expert skier and loved the steep trails of Stratton, VT and the family ski house on the mountain.  Golf was an occasional pastime for Ron, whose favorite hole was the "19th".  Ron was an auto racing enthusiast and attended many events at Watkins Glen and elsewhere.  He followed the financial markets closely and thoroughly enjoyed the "contrarian" moniker he earned by correctly going against the conventional wisdom.  Memberships at the Channel Club Marina, Brielle Yacht club and Metuchen Country Club provided Ron and his family with many happy times and fond memories.

Ron had a brilliant sense of humor and could always find a joke in any situation.  You had to be on your toes to keep up with him.  You always knew where you stood with Ron because he gave it to you straight.  It was for good reason his favorite Frank Sinatra song was "My Way".  Even though he never finished his White Paper, you could say his was truly a life well lived.

He is survived by his devoted wife Dorothy, son Scott, daughter-in-law Robin, daughter Cathy, son-in-law Steve and grandchildren Shaun, Paige, Brian and Kyle.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 1:00 pm, in Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.

Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen, NJ 08863.

Memorial contributions in Ronald Epstein's name may be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America, 9899 Main St., Suite 204, Damascus, MD 20872, or online at www.curesarcoma.org/memorial-giving.
