Robert Lynn Winston, 90, of Edison, passed peacefully on Friday evening, January 4, 2019, with his family at his side, at the Haven Hospice Unit of JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in East Orange, NJ, he was formerly of Lyndhurst, NJ, and had resided in Edison for the last 60 years.
He proudly served his country as a corporal in the US Army during WW II and while serving with the Army, he was a truck driver, football player and boxer.
He was a retired truck driver for Friedman's Express Trucking Co. in Jersey City, NJ for many years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local #478 in Jersey City, NJ. and later a custodian for the Metuchen YMCA.
He became a man of God, and loved and lived his life, by "The Word".
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gloria Winston, who died October 15, 2006 and his son, Darrin Winston, who died August 15, 2008.
He leaves behind his beloved children; Corey Winston and his wife Laura, of Port St. Lucie, FL, Candi Turso and her husband Thomas, of Vernon, NJ and Scott Winston and his wife Carolyn, of Jackson, NJ, his 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave. Fords, NJ 08863. Followed by 12:30 funeral service. Interment services will follow at the Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen.
