Robert E. Sutherland, 60, passed away on April 28, 2023, at Hackensack Meridian/JFK Medical Center, Edison.

Robert was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 8, 1962. He was the son of Kenneth Sutherland of Staten Island, NY and Patricia ( nee Balinski) Sutherland of Edison, NJ. Robert was a graduate of William E. Grady High School. Robert was a self-employed plumber and worked in construction. Besides being known as a Mets and Jets fan, Robert was also an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary ( nee Commins) Sutherland of Edison; his children: Robert M. Sutherland, and his wife Hannah, of Topsham, ME, Daniel Sutherland of Edison, Kelsey Sutherland of Philadelphia, PA; his brothers: Kenneth J. Sutherland, and his wife Vera, of Staten Island, NY, Thomas Sutherland, and his wife Alyce, of Holmdel, NJ, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Fords Avenue, Fords from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where Funeral Services will begin on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 10:00 am, followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Committal services will be in the chapel of Rosehill Crematory, Linden, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Robert's name to the American Heart Association.
