Robert "Bob"
Donlin
July 13, 1941 – December 25, 2021
It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Donlin.
Bob was born and raised in Elizabeth to the late Ester and Harold Donlin Sr, before moving to Hazlet. After graduating high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 18 years old and served in the Vietnam War from 1959-1962. Once he was discharged, he married his wife Kathleen, and started to create a life together. Bob knew he wanted to serve his community and became a police officer in 1971. He started working for the Perth Amboy police department 25 years ago, before Kathleen's passing in 1997. He retired as a Sergeant in early 2000.
After a few years, Bob met his soul mate Ruth Lyons, they were long-time partners and madly in love with each other until her passing in 2018. Bob loved traveling, especially cruises, visiting places like Ireland and Scotland. He was an avid golfer and he enjoyed bowling. Bobs most cherished activity was playing rounds of poker with his buddies.
Bob is predeceased by his brother Harold Donlin Jr. He is survived by his loving daughters, Katie Oxner and Kimberly Lyons; his step-son, Chris Lyons; his siblings, Betty Anne, Charles and wife, Anne, Herb and wife, Donna, Jack and wife, Karen; his loving grandson, Derek Oxner; along with many cousins and extended family.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 5, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue Fords, NJ 08863. Military Honors will be rendered at 5: 30 p.m. in the funeral home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace Church, 620 Amboy Ave, Edison, NJ 08837 on Thursday, January 6, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home starting at 9:30 a.m. Cremation will be held privately.
At the request of the family, masks must be worn in the funeral home to attend services. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
