Obituary

Robert F. Brooks, 93, of Edison passed away peacefully at the home of his son with his family by his side.

Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Robert was the son of the late Bessie and Robert F Brooks, Sr.  He served in the U.S. Navy as a fireman during WWII.  Robert had always been interested in the new technologies with electronics. So, after the War, he attended the RCA Institute in New York City, one of America's oldest radio institutions, where he learned about radio technology and early television technology.  He graduated from the institute in 1950.  In 1951 he married the love of his life Dorothy.  They were practically inseparable until her passing this past June, 2021.

After his graduation from RCA he went on to work for Reeves Teletape as a technical director. Robert went of and had an incredible career filming countless television shows and sports specials for ABC Sports and NBC Productions to include the Miss Universe Pageant, Merv Griffin Show, Barbara Streisand in Central Park, Kate and Allie, Sesame Street and the Beatles.  He had the pleasure to work with some of the most famous stars of that day such as Henry Fonda, Raquel Welch, Bob Hope, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino and countless others.

Beyond the magic of television Robert had a love of fishing, playing golf and playing cards.  He especially enjoyed the time he spent playing cards at the Metuchen Seniors.  He and Dorothy had the good fortune to be able to travel the world.  They relished their opportunities to taste different foods and explore the different cultures from the different countries they visited.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife of 70 years Dorothy, Robert was preceded in death by his son Douglas Brooks in 1990, and his sister Betty Brown.

He is survived by his son Ronald and wife Carol of Edison; three grandchildren: Christopher and wife Cathy, Lisa and husband Nick, and Kimberly and husband Fernando.  He also leaves behind his five great-grandchildren: Luke, Emma, Declan, Nolan, and Maya.
