Rita Doctofsky
Kagan

Rita Doctofsky Kagan, 93, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on February 22, 2024 at the Country Arch Care Center in Pittstown, NJ.
Rita was born on August 27, 1930 to Nettie Goldman and Maxim H Doctofsky in Perth Amboy, the first daughter and second of five children. She was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School. Rita then went on to follow in the footsteps of her dad Max and older brother Roy and attended the Rutgers College of Pharmacy. She then went into practice alongside them at Middlesex Pharmacy in Perth Amboy, and Publix Pharmacy in Woodbridge, for many years. Later, she had a long, successful career as a Pharmacist at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
She married her beloved husband, George M Kagan in 1955. They celebrated 55 loving years of marriage until his passing in 2010, during which they raised their three children in both Fords and Edison.
Rita was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, friend, coworker, grandma and great grandmother. Rita always had a bright, positive outlook on everything in life. She had an outstanding work ethic, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone and everyone who needed one. She was kind, cheerful, fun loving, understanding, encouraging and compassionate. She was generous, thoughtful, fair and open minded. She was an outstanding role model not just for her family, but also many others who were fortunate enough to be in her life. Her keen attention to detail, combined with her love of people made her an outstanding Pharmacist.
She was a member of Temple Emanu-el in Edison, and its Sisterhood, a volunteer and member of the JFK Auxiliary, member of Rutgers College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and the New Jersey Association of Hospital Pharmacists.
Rita was a true patron of the arts, and loved everything involved with music, theater and art.
She loved Bridge and knitting and she freely shared these gifts with her family and friends.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents Nettie and Maxim, her husband George, her bothers Roy and Daniel Doctofsky and her sister Diane Greenspan. She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses /partners David and Juli, Paul and Cheryl, Jill and Jean; her sister Nancy and her husband Fred Okun; her 4 grandsons and spouses, Calvin and his wife Amanda, Joseph and his wife Jaclyn, Zachary, and his wife Noelle, and Alex, and her 5 awesome great-grandchildren Jack, Abby, Max, Isaac and Cooper.
Rita will be greatly missed by all.
Memorial Services will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00 am from Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rita's memory to the American Stroke Association at: www.stroke.org.
