Richard E. Savner, 91, of Edison, entered into eternal rest September 1, 2016, at JFK Medical Center, Edison. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and had resided in Edison for the past 59 years. He was a Labor Relations Manager at Ford Motor Co. in Edison and an Industrial Relations Manager at Ford Export Division in Newark for 36 years, before retiring in 1986. Richard served his country faithfully in the Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre as an Aviation Radioman, Second Class, on the USS Yorktown II. He was a Purple Heart recipient and served in the battles at Iwo Jima, the Sea of Japan and Guadalcanal and flew over the USS Missouri when the surrender papers were signed in 1945. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church in Fords and served as a trustee, Eucharistic Minister, lector and a member of the St. Vincent De Paul and Holy Name Societies. He was a former principal of religious education and organized the first blood drive at the church. Richard was awarded the Regina Coeli Medal by the Diocese of Metuchen for outstanding service to the church. He will be forever remembered for his devotion to his faith and family, as nothing else was as important to him.
Richard is survived by Elizabeth Klisch Savner, his wife of 66 years and his children, Elizabeth M. Savner of Edison; Suzanne Savner-D'Addio and her husband, Alex, of Piscataway; and Richard Savner and his wife, Margaret, of Howell. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth D'Addio and her husband, J.J. Chojnowski; Dr. Suzanne D'Addio; Alexander D'Addio and his wife, Kasey; Theresa D'Addio-Rossi and her husband, Steve; Margaret M. DiLollo and her husband, Rick; Mary T. Pierce and her husband, Steve; Jacqueline M. Rozanski and her husband, Jeff; Richard E. Savner, III and his fiancé, Megan Filipek; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum, Piscataway. Visitation is Monday 3:00 – 7:00 PM.
