Richard Puhan, 78, of Fords, died Thursday April 14, 2022, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel.
Born in Perth Amboy to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Puhan, Richard grew up in Fords. He received his Associates Degree from Middlesex County Community College. Richards family owned Puhan's Pharmacy. Richard was so proud of the pharmacy, anyone raised in Fords remembers the soda fountain. When he became eligible, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War serving from 1966 to 1969, becoming an honorably discharged veteran. After returning home, he worked for the Garden State Parkway Highway Authority as an assistant toll supervisor before his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed appreciating vintage cars, attending car shows, and hanging out with his friends and family. He was a member of the VFW Post #6090 in Fords, the South Amboy Elks Lodge #0784, and the Perth Amboy American Legion Post #45.
Richard is predeceased by his loving sister, Susan Puhan. He is survived by his extended family, Charlie and wife, Shirley Puhan, Robert Puhan, Linda and husband Gary Story, Ruth Puhan, Maggie Puhan, Frank and wife Mary Puhan, Buck Bailey, Donald Bailey, Teresa and husband Tom Fells, along with his dear friend Nancy Ferraro.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863. Services will begin at 6 p.m. A funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022, in Our Lady of Peace Church, 620 Amboy Ave, Edison, NJ 08837, family and friends are welcome to gather in the funeral home starting at 9 a.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Richard's Memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html , or the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org . Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
