Obituary

Richard Prehodka of New London, Connecticut passed away Sunday August 19, 2012 at Yale New Haven Hospital while recuperating from Surgical Procedures. He is survived by his brothers Barry Prehodka of Ridgefield, Ct. and Gregory Prehodka of Nazareth, PA. He was predeceased by his younger brother Alexander Bruce Prehodka and his parents Alexander and Malvin Prehodka.

Richard graduated from Edison High School in 1961 and attended the University of South Carolina. He enlisted and served in the US Army in the 1960's and converted to being a civilian employee of the services in Camp Kilmer, NJ, Orange, NY, and finally in New London, CT. Richard traveled to US ports of call for submarines for many years, finally retiring in 2000.

Richard enjoyed many hobbies including model airplanes, antiques, and ham radio. He was very proud of his 1890 Victorian home in New London. In retirement Richard was active in the local Senior Citizens Center, the American Legion, and the New London Salvation Army.

A visitation will take place on Saturday August 25, 2012 at the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen from 2-4:30 pm. Burial will be on Thursday August 30, 2012, at 10 am, at the State Veteran's Cemetery 317 Bow Lane Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the New London Senior Center 120 Broad St., New London, CT. 06320 C/O Elizabeth Witter.
