Richard J. Ponik, 82, of Hopelawn, passed away on May 12, 2018 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy.
He was born in Bayonne, and had resided in Hopelawn for 56 years.
Richard was a machinist foreman with Hansome Energy Systems in Linden for 25 years, retiring in 2000. He served in the US Army from 1955-1957. Richard was a exempt member of Hopelawn Engine Company #1, a life member of Hopelawn First Aid Squad, and a active parent with the Saints Drum and Bugle Corp in Fords, from 1973-1977.
Richard was predeceased by his wife, Frances (Toth) in 1997, his sister, Dorothy Conti and his brother, George.
Surviving are his sons, Richard M. and his wife, Pattiann of Hopelawn, Robert and his wife, Donna of Sewaren; his daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Brian of Perth Amboy; his cherished grandchildren: Johnathan, Jennifer, Trisha, Patrick and Amanda; his brother, Raymond and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, from 4-9 PM at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, at 10 AM. Interment to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
