It was with great sadness on March 31, 2020, that Richard Johnson, 66, of South Amboy, heard God calling him home.  Private services were held for Richard who passed suddenly at his home.  Born in Newton, MA, he grew up in Medfield, MA, and was formerly of Bergen County.  Richard was known by all to be a loving husband and loving stepfather to Vaughn and Tasha who affectionately referred to him as Pop.  He was a gentle giant, good man and dear friend.  He stepped up to challenges and accepted responsibility for others with a generous and loving heart.

Richard never met a dog who he did not like – as evidenced by the numerous dogs Louise and he shared during their marriage.  He was a great enthusiast of pinball machines; you would find him tinkering in the basement on them or attending conventions with his son Vaughn.  Richard was one of the quiet "heros" in today's worlds; he worked hard and loved his family, friends and country.

He leaves behind his beloved wife and soul mate of 24 years, Louise Balog Johnson; his beloved stepson, Vaughn R. Kopacz and Tasha Kopacz; his brother, Bruce Johnson, and sister-in-law, Linda, of Meza, AZ; and his sister, Janice Johnson, of Ashburnham, MA.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Richard's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  We will keep you apprised.
