Obituary

Richard F. Duffy passed peacefully in the morning hours of Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Care One Highlands.

Born and raised in Newark, Richard was the son of the late Leo and Anna Skrocki Duffy.  He was a graduate of St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark. In 1952 he entered the US Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean War until 1955.  It was after his military service that he met, and then married the former Irene Nataline. He went on to work for New Jersey Bell first as a lineman, and then promoted to Installation Foreman. He also worked for Verizon, and ran his own company installing phone and network systems.

A devout Catholic, Richard was drawn by his spirit to serve.  He was a member and Past Grand Knight of the St. Cecelia Council of the Knights of Columbus #3639 in Iselin.  He could always be seen volunteering at the St. Cecelia's Fair, or Cub Scout functions. He was always willing to lend a hand where needed.

At home with his family Richard was also there to help his children feel loved and valued.  He gave of his time to coach little league baseball, Pop Warner Football, and as a Cub Scout Leader.  Even as a coach, he had a unique style of coaching that focused not so much on winning, but on making sure each child had a turn to play each game, and feel part of the team.

His other interests included crossword puzzles, John Wayne Movies, and music.  His legacy will include his love of faith, country, the Marine Corps, and most of all his dear family and friends.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Irene Duffy; his daughter Ann Marie Vickery and her husband David; sons Kevin Duffy, his wife Camille, and James Duffy; and grandchildren Patrick, Ryan, Jacob, and Emily.
