Richard S. Cumber, 70, of Fords died Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at the JFK Medical Center in Edison.
He was born in Perth Amboy and resided in Fords since 1971. Richard was the owner of Universal General Sheet Metal, Inc., in Edison from 1982 until his retirement in 2007. Prior to purchasing the company, he was employed by them as a foreman since 1965. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member and senior Warden and Acolyte of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Perth Amboy.
Richard is predeceased by his mother, Ellen Cumber. Surviving family members include his wife of 45 years, Susanne (Herman) Cumber; his 2 daughters: Cheryl A. Jackson and her husband, Tim of Fords, and Danielle E. Hofmann and her husband Anthony of Fords; 3 grandchildren: Benjamin Jackson, and Brooke and Jared Hofmann; his sister, Patricia Beveridge of PA; his 5 brothers: Robert Cumber of LA, John Cumber of South Amboy, Stephen Cumber of Toms River, Michael Suswal of Perth Amboy, and Joseph Suswal of PA, and several sisters- and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services wil be on Friday, August 6, 2010, at 10 AM at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 351 Lawrie St., Perth Amboy. Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 5, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the FLYNN AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ.
