Ralph Salomone, 89, a lifelong resident of Metuchen, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Lyons.
He graduated from Metuchen High School in 1945 and enlisted in the US Army. After 18 months of service, he enlisted in the Marine Corps.
Sgt. Salomone was a decorated U.S. Army and Marine Corps. veteran. A Purple Heart recipient, who was severely wounded in action on his 24th birthday, while serving in the Korean War, in the vicinity of the Changjin reservoir in China, with the mortar company with the 1st Marine Division.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ann and Ralph Salomone.
Originally, one of twelve children, Ralph leaves behind, four siblings, Matthew Salomone and Grace Krommes both of Edison, Ledy Salomone of Holiday, FL and Jerry Salomone and his wife Judith, of Manalapan and many nieces and nephews.
A private interment took place on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle, NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
