Phyllis (Pietraski) Zambo
August 9, 1936 – October 6, 2025

Phyllis (Pietraski) Zambo, 89, of Monroe Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, at Roosevelt Care Center.

Born in Perth Amboy on August 9, 1936, Phyllis graduated from Perth Amboy High School 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Zambo, in 1957. Together, they shared nearly 68 years of marriage and would have celebrated their anniversary on October 19th.

Phyllis started her career as a secretary but later made a bold move by returning to school to earn an Associate's Degree in Computer Science from Middlesex County College—far ahead of when many women entered the field. She worked for several large companies and retired from Bell Labs.

She was predeceased by her brother, James Pietraski.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Ellen (Zambo) Anderson and her husband, Scot, of New Brunswick; her son, Robert S. Zambo, and his wife, Donna (Cunningham) Zambo, of North Brunswick. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren: Kevin, Derek, Taylor, Stephanie, and Julia; a great-grandmother to Casey and Quinn; her brother, Philip Pietraski, of South Amboy; and her sister, Helen Casey, of Lancaster, PA.

Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who expressed her love through her actions. She hosted memorable Christmas Eve gatherings and poker night house parties, creating traditions that brought her family and friends together over the years. In her 70s, she faced breast cancer with quiet strength and resilience, meeting life's challenges with the support of Bob and a steady, determined spirit.

Her life was marked by devotion, perseverance, and care for those closest to her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Visitation will be at the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863 on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 am, interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

The family kindly requests that donations be made in Phyllis's memory to a charity of your choice.
