Obituary

Phyllis R. Edwards (née Rivello), 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on March 20, 2026. Born on July 12, 1942, in Perth Amboy, Phyllis was a lifelong resident, living there for 78 years before spending the last five years in Clark.

She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Frank Rivello and Josephine Rivello, and her brother, Carmen Rivello.

A proud graduate of Perth Amboy High School, Phyllis built a remarkable and accomplished career in the mortgage banking industry. She served as a Senior Vice President in Default Management, with a distinguished professional journey that included Margaretten in Perth Amboy, Chase Home Mortgage in Montvale, Citi Federal Savings and Loan in Somerset, Dime Bank in Garden City Park, Long Island, Meridian Bank in Wayne, PA, Cenlar Mortgage in Ewing, New Jersey, and later in private consulting. She was widely respected for her fair leadership, integrity, and strong work ethic.

Phyllis was married for 61 years to the love of her life, William K. Edwards. Together, they built a beautiful family that remained the center of her world. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Alison M. English, and Alison's spouse, the Hon. Brian M. English, J.S.C., and her son, Craig C. Edwards, and Craig's spouse, Susan J. Edwards.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to Capt. Drew M. English of the U.S. Army, Bret English, Emily Edwards, Claire English, Stephen Edwards, and Lauren Edwards, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She was also a proud aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Phyllis will be remembered as a strong, kind, loving, and hardworking woman—a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a trusted confidant who touched the lives of many with her warmth and compassion.

She cherished her family above all else, and also found great joy in her friendships, her faith, and her many interests. Phyllis loved traveling, playing games, and spending meaningful time with loved ones.

A dedicated member of Good Shepherd Parish (formerly Most Holy Rosary), Phyllis was deeply involved in her church community. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and was an active member of the Ladies Guild, Senior Citizens group, Travel Club, Italian Festa, and Tricky Tray, always giving her time generously.
