Obituary

Philip L. Sasso 93, of Fords, entered into eternal rest, January 23, 2017, at his home.  He was born in Brooklyn, and was formerly of Pennsylvania, before moving to Woodbridge in 2005.  He had lived in the senior housing in Woodbridge where the residents referred to him as the "Mayor" because he kept up to date on the current events and world news. In his later years he moved to Fords to live with his daughter and her family.

Philip worked as a Bartender at the 20 Club on Wall Street in NYC for 15 years before retiring in 1988.

He enjoyed the music of the 40's, Frank Sinatra in particular.  He was a great cook and so enjoyed good food.  Philip loved to go on cruises, play the lottery, and take his jaunts to Atlantic City.  He was also a member of the St. James Seniors and an Army veteran of WW II.

He was a devoted family man, a real people person, who was a great story teller sitting around the social table, enjoying a good scotch or a nice glass of wine.

Philip was predeceased by his wife Anna M. Magliulo Sasso in 1985, his son Thomas Sasso in 2005, and his sisters Antoinette "Nettie" Scalise, and Tina Gustafson.  He is survived by his devoted daughter Julie Cafaro and her husband Joseph of Fords, dear grandfather of Joanna, Jaclyn (Wilder) Nunez, and Jeanette, and his nephews Marc (Kim) and Guy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Liturgy at St. James RC Church.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY.  Visitation is Wednesday 7-9 and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  Contribution may be made to St. Jude's Children's Fund.
