Obituary

Peter Robert Terebush Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully, with his daughter by his side, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at the VA Medical Center in East Orange, NJ.

He was born on February 7, 1937 in Perth Amboy, NJ to the late Peter Sr. and Agnes Terebush. He grew up in the Fords section of Woodbridge. Peter graduated from Perth Amboy Technical High School, where he trained as an Electrician. As a teenager, Peter enjoyed being part of the Perth Amboy Drum & Bugle Corps and it was there that he met his future wife, Pauline Kuzma.

After high school, Peter proudly served his country as member of the US Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home, Peter became a successful entrepreneur, owning several businesses. He started out by owning a gas station at the foot of the Driscoll Bridge in Perth Amboy. The attached garage allowed him to pursue both his love for fixing and rebuilding cars.

His love of eating led him to own and operate several food establishments. His initial purchase was a Stewart’s Root Beer Stand, in Hackettstown, NJ. During the Woodstock Concert, the traffic was bumper to bumper in front of his place and he had a blast making sure everyone got fed as they slowly moved by in traffic.

He later purchased an Everything Yogurt & Salad Café location in the East Brunswick Sq Mall. He enjoyed having family there to help him become successful. Peter continued working Part Time as a food sampler for Costco/CDS because he loved talking to people. He also cherished his time volunteering at St. Thomas's Bingo nights, especially in the Kitchen.

His hobbies throughout life, included attending the theater, visiting museums, owning horses and restoring vintage cars, as well as Street Rods. One of his most prized possessions was his 1934 Ford Coupe. He proudly drove that car to many shows in the NJ and PA areas. Peter also loved spending time near the water, ultimately buying homes on the Sandy Hook Bay and the Atlantic City boardwalk. He enjoyed fly fishing, relaxing on the beach, various sporting events and traveling. Florida had been his preferred destination since he was a young adult, leading him to make several purchases where he could enjoy the warm weather. This is also where he could continue to indulge in testing as many flavors of ice cream as possible.

In addition, Peter always enjoyed the company of animals. His favorite, was his Doberman, Angel. She was his companion and protector for many years.

Family and friends were very important to Peter. He cherished many relationships dating back decades. His close ties with his cousins and friends, intertwined with his love for travel, took him to places including California, Hawaii, Minneapolis, Missouri, Kentucky and Vermont.

Peter is predeceased by his late wife, Pauline Mary Kuzma Terebush.

Surviving Peter are his two children, Kim Terebush and Todd Terebush.

Visitation will take place on Friday, July 10, 2026 between the hours of 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863.
