Obituary

Peter Matthew Martiak, 71, of Fords entered into eternal rest Friday May 21, 2010, at his home.
He was born October 16, 1938 in Perth Amboy, later moving to the Fords section of Woodbridge.

He attended Our Lady of Peace School in Fords. He attended Woodbridge High School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Perth Amboy Class of 1957. He helped in the family business, Martiak's Confectioners. He joined the IBEW LU 358 of Perth Amboy, NJ, in 1957. He was an active member for 44 years. He was a loyal member of his local union serving as recording secretary under 4 business managers for a period of over 25 years. Peter served as Director of the T.R.E.E. Program funded by the Middlesex County Building Trades. In childhood he served as an altar boy. He was the first president of the Holy Name Society of his parish. He was an avid athletic sports lover serving as coach of Pop Warner football and basketball for the Perth Amboy Buffalos. He also took part as an umpire and took part in many sports activities such as tennis, basketball and football. He served as a recruiter for Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, working directly for Ara Parsigian. He assisted in scouting such notables as Joe Thiesman of South River, John Shumate of Elizabeth, Gary Brokaw of New Brunswick, and John Kondryk of Woodbridge.

He was the son of the late Stephen Martiak and grandson of Frances Myslinski. Surviving are his mother, Sophie Myslinski Martiak of Edison; daughter, Monica Lynn Forgione and husband Salvatore of Edison, and son Mark Martiak and wife Angela of New York City. He is the late husband of Jean Martiak and Mickey; Grandchildren, Audrea Silva Rappaport-Martiak, Salvatore Peter, Stephen Joseph, Louis Matthew Forgione; Sisters and Brothers, Lorraine O'Prandy of Fords, Stephen Martiak of Morganville, Wayne Martiak of Pt. Pleasant and Maureen Pecht of Edison, also many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will begin Thursday, May 27, 2010, at 8:45am from Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue Fords, NJ. Funeral Liturgy 9:30am Holy Spirit Church, Interment St. Gertrude Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday 2-4, 7-9pm at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made in his memory to Bristol Meyers Squib Children's Hospital in New Brunswick.
