Paul E. Zawartkay, 61, Of Park Ridge died Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.
Paul was born in Laurence Harbor to the late Sadie and Stephen Zawartkay. After Paul received his high school diploma from Cedar Ridge High School in 1980, he then went on to train as an electrician at Bloomfield College. Once graduated, he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) where he would become a journeyman until he retired from Local 164 in 2015. Paul also attended Rutgers University's Union Leadership Academy where he obtained his degree in Labor Law. Paul was a skilled welder, High Voltage certified, HAZWOPER certified, OSHA certified trainer and was on the IBEW Local 164 Executive Board. He was deeply dedicated to the union and its principles and loved training electrical apprentices.
In 1985, Paul took his love for professional wrestling to the next level and began training at the Monster Factory in Paulsboro, NJ. He trained with many WWF superstars, eventually going on to become a WWF wrestler himself. Under his stage name, Paul Fine, he became the Ultimate Party Animal. He went toe to toe with many wrestling legends. Paul wrestled until an auto injury cut his wrestling career short. He would then go on to manage other wrestlers over the years. He also held a black belt in karate and was a wonderful instructor to many students.
Paul was a fourth-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus Don Bosco Council #8146, then transferred to council #4486 in Park Ridge. He was a dedicated catholic and a faithful parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy in Park Ridge. Paul was very involved in his community being a member of many fraternal organizations like the ELKS post #2234, Sons of American Legion post #0153, Ancient Order of Hibernians of Perth Amboy, and Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1360 . He also was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. When Paul wasn't serving his community or spending time with his family he took joy in spending time at his property in Stony Creek, NY or riding his motorcycle. Paul was avid motorcycle enthusiast and member of the Harley Owners Group(HOG). Paul was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
Paul is predeceased by his parents Sadie and Stephen, his brother Robert, nephew Stephen and niece Kelly. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Janice (nee Geletta) Zawartkay; his sons Robert, Steven and his wife, Carolyn, and David; his daughter, Sarah and her husband Lou; his brother, James and his wife, Ethel; his siblings, Kathleen, Barbara, Patrick and his wife, Maxine; his beloved grandchildren, Steven, Kayla, Xavier and Sophia. Along with many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue Fords, NJ 08863, with a time of sharing beginning at 6:15 p.m. in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held the following day starting at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, 620 Amboy Avenue Edison. Family and friends are welcome to gather in the funeral home prior to mass for a 10 a.m. prayer service.
