Paul David Steffen, 79, of Edison entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 20, 2012, at his home.
Paul was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and resided in Edison for the past 23 years. He was a Korean War veteran who went on to work at Ford Motor Co. and the oil fields of Wyoming before working as a Custodian at Shop-Rite in Woodbridge. He retired in 1996 after 10 years of service. He graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art where he developed his artistic talent and excelled in portraits and cartoons. He was a former member of BPO Elks and was an avid Yankees and Cleveland Indians Fan. Early in life he tried out for the Chicago Cubs Farm Team. The highlight of his life was meeting Joe De Maggio, Pete Rose, and Mickey Mantle, and he cherished his collection of signed autograph baseballs.
Paul was predeceased by his daughter, Marian Marshall, and his brother, John. He is survived by his children: Suzanne Dick and her husband Jon of Ohio, Paul Jr. and his wife Theresa of Florida, Michael and his wife Carol of Ohio, and David of California; his life partner, Sharon Hulbert, with whom he cherished their time together traveling to Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and trips to Cleveland to visit family; his eight grandchildren: Lucas, Chris, Tim, Raymond, Maggie, Michael, Evan, and Courtney; his mother, Margaret Steffen and siblings: Jerry B. Steffen and Joan Brastivich.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm at the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen, NJ with the funeral service taking place during the evening hours.
