Paul A. Makara, 64, of Edison, passed away on January 26, 2016, at JFK Medical Center in Edison.  Born in Elizabeth and raised in Roselle, he resided in Edison for the past 39 years.  He was employed as a Custodian with the Metuchen Board of Education for the last 16 years.  Paul was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the VFW Post #3117, Edison and the Disabled American Veterans.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Cecelia Makara; his brothers, John P. and Stephen, Jr.; and his sister, Stephanie.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Maxine L. (nee Tullai) Makara; his children:  Matthew Makara and his wife, Danielle, of Edison; Donna Makara-Diaz and her husband, Edwin, of Fords; and Kathryn Tschopp and her husband, John, of Montgomery; 8 grandchildren:  Travis, Alyissa, Madison, Cynthia, Makayla, Eva, Grace and Ian; his siblings: Cecelia Banasiak of Avenel, Raymond of Chatham Township, Joseph of Butler and Michael of Perth Amboy.  Paul will be sorely missed by his best buddy since Vietnam, Joe Acuna.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 9:30 am at the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840 followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace RC Church, Fords.  Entombment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, East Brunswick.  Visitation will be on Friday, January 29, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
